I thought I had book 3 all neatly sewn up; written, edited, re-written, re-edited, beta read and then edited again, ready to submit to agents and publishers. Then came a rejection letter from an agent who’d requested a full. The usual standard rejection, nothing specific, just “not a fit for us at this time.” Of course, this offered nothing of value, nothing I could use to understand what didn’t “fit.” The premise and query letter were good enough to grab the agents attention, so what didn’t they like? Trying to figure it out gave me a headache, and sent me back to my manuscript to tweak it…okay, re-write it yet again. My 4th novel is on hold while I “fix” the third, and I have to ask: when do you stop editing?
