I read them and I write them. Surprised myself at some of the darker elements I write, I wonder; what draws you to mysteries and thrillers? Is it the challenge of a puzzle? Do you like to be scared? Shocked? Do you like to try and read minds, wonder why killers do such terrible things? Or do you have a dark, slightly twisted side you want to explore?
Bad news always attracts more viewers than good news. Startling headlines grab our attention. Why is that? We don’t feel any better for reading horrible news, do we? I don’t. Or maybe we secretly do, thankful the tragedy didn’t happen to us.
Do we descend into darkness for the relief when we climb out? Is it a quirk of human nature? I’m interested to know what you think.
