Today, it is my pleasure to host my wonderful publisher, Karen Syed, on the first leg of her Sassy Gal blog Tour. Without further ado:
One day I decided to do a Blog Tour. What the heck is a Blog Tour, you ask? Well, it’s kinda like a Rock Tour except I’m not nearly as famous as say, Poison or The Rolling Stones It’s a hard truth, but I am learning to live with my obvious lack of fame. I’m not as well-known as Paris Hilton (probably because I ALWAYS where underwear in public-what other reason could there be?)
So, I decide that I am going to do this tour. Well every good tour needs a name, so what could I call my tour? Well, seeing as how I’m kinda sassy, I decided that it’ll be the Sassy Gal Blog Tour 2010. Kinda catchy, huh? So, what is the point? Simple. You need to know who I am and the easiest way for me to show you is to put myself on tour. I am never going to be hounded by the bookarazzi if no one knows who the hell I am.
Here I am. Who cares? Hopefully, you will. A little bit about me. This gets kinda personal, but it’s okay, I trust you.
I was born Karen Jones in Grand Rapids, MI (I have a cousin who lives there who is a brilliant artist, you should check Bethalynne Bajema out.) At four my mom and I followed my grandparents to Bradenton, Florida where I lived for 25 years. I could not wait to get out. I knew for the better part of my life that I wanted to be a writer, but I was never confident that I could do it. That confidence was weakened even more by my first husband. We call him Butthead. Yeah, I know, but it works. Bad relationship, but I am proud to be an abuse survivor.
So, as if things weren’t crazy enough in my life, after I got divorced I moved to Texas and married a man who was in prison. Heehee. It’s the truth. He was not a bad man and we needed each other. No regrets.
While moving to Texas when I had never been away from my family (I knew no one in Texas) was a wild thing, it was an incredible turning point in my life. When I settled down in Fort Worth I met a group of writers and we formed quite a bond. I managed to write several romance novels and even founded a Romance Writers of America chapter. My life had definitely changed, and for the better.
A couple months after I moved there, I met a man on the Internet. Whhoowweee, can I tell a story or what. So this man and I start talking and after a couple weeks, we meet. We just celebrated our 9 year wedding anniversary on July 5th. The Internet is not as scary as everyone makes it out to be.
During our 14 year relationship we have done some incredible things. During our first year he bought me a bookstore. Yup, a whole bookstore. During the time I owned it I was nominated for Publishers Weekly Bookseller of the Year. Some store in Indiana won, but hell, I was nominated and that was so awesome.
A couple years into the bookstore adventure, a friend and I started Echelon Press. Wow. It is amazing what ten minutes with a thesaurus and $11.00 can do. In February 2011, we will celebrate our ten year anniversary of the company.
In March of 2008, I went into heart failure and became the proud recipient of a pacemaker/defibrillator. I have to say that in all my life, that has turned out to be my biggest challenge. But I have good friends and a husband who fully intends to grow old with me, so I am confident that I can make it all work.
It has been an incredible ride and the things I have seen and one over the years are incredible. Business is great. Marriage is great. Life is great.
Why have I told you all the most personal things in my life? Because I’m me and every single thing in my life, good or bad, has helped me to where I sit now (which is in my new leather recliner that hubby bought me for our anniversary).
I was recently criticized for being myself and told that if I stay the way I am, I won’t succeed. What do you think? I think my life is one big success after another. Every day that I wake up is another success.
I’d like to thank Jenny for launching my Sassy Gal Blog Tour and I hope you’ll hop on over and buy her debut novel, MADNESS AND MURDER. It totally rocks, and as her publisher, I know what I am talking about.
And since you took the time to visit this stop of my tour, I want to give you something. Everyone who posts a comment on this stop of the tour will get a FREE PDF download of my favorite Short Story, SEDUCING CUPID (it’s a romance, but I really like it.)
